At the airport

Despite a rainy start in Tampa, we are now happily ensconced in the Sky Club awaiting our flight to Atlanta. The weekend was hectic with preparations for the trip. Libby seems to have faired pretty well with leaving Emerson (a few tears), but we know she’s in good hands with the ‘rents at home.

One week and counting…

I’m writing this aboard a Delta Airline’s flight. This is my final business trip before our vacation next week. I have to say: this vacation has been a long time in coming. It will be our first time back to Europe in about 15 months. That’s probably not long by most standards, but it’s an eternity by that of Paul & Libby, World of Travelers. šŸ˜‰

We have countries to visit!

I’m excited about Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania. I can’t say that I really have well formed expectations. I don’t. However, that’s usually a recipe for travel success (e.g., our first visit to Prague). Most of all, I’m excited about the prospect of spending a week with Libby seeing the world. I think we could give up most “luxuries” in life… but not travel. We’re simply too passionate about it.

In more practical terms, I’m doing the usual “mad dash” to get ready to go. I think we have things largely in order… both for us and for Emerson. But, I expect the remainder of the week and weekend to be utterly hectic.

We’re off to Venice in two weeks from today!

And then we’ll be on the brand new Nieuw Amsterdam (actually the 4th Nieuw Amsterdam in HAL’s history) for her (semi-)inaugural sailing. I say ā€œsemiā€ because she starts a 10-day cruise three days ahead of us. We’re embarking later on the shorter 7-day sailing in order to limit the time away from Emerson. Sadly, we’ll miss calling at Dubrovnik. But, on the bright side, we’ll visit Split in Croatia instead.

We’re excited to go but utterly unprepared! C’est la vie.

It’s been a little over three months since my last post.

I’ve been a bit too busy living life (work, baby) to spend much time writing about it. Also, aside from business trips, we haven’t really traveled anywhere. Indeed, we haven’t been on a significant trip since last August’s visit to Alaska and Canada.

And, I need a vacation!

Fortunately, we have our planned 7-day cruise of Italy, Greece, and the Western Balkans upcoming in July. I wish the trip was a bit longer. A week isn’t enough. But, I’ll take what I can get.

We’ve also switched the itinerary of the Thanksgiving week family trip from a 7-day Western Caribbean to a 9-day Southern Caribbean cruise aboard NCL Dawn. This will be Emerson’s first trip outside of the United States (ex utero, anyway) and will yield five new countries to the count (making a total of 10 in 2010… not bad for new parents).

For the Winter/Spring of 2011, I’ve booked all three of us on a 14-night cruise to Antarctica aboard Celebrity Infinity. That’s right: Libby and I are crazy enough to fly to South America, get aboard a ship, cross some of the roughest seas in the world, and visit the Great White Continent – all with a 12-month old baby!

We’re also talking about a couple of weekend gateways in the Fall: New York (w/o Emerson) and/or Memphis (w/ Emerson).

Stay tuned for updates… which I’ll start posting (I hope) weekly in preparation for the upcoming trips.

Our new little traveler…

I’m pleased to announce the birth of our daughter (and future world traveler), Emerson Abigail.

Libby & Emerson

Emerson was born on 02/07/10 at 00:52 (Eastern) in Tampa, FL. She weighed 7lbs 5oz (3330 grams) and was 20″ in length.

Both Libby and Emerson are doing very well.
